A sad day here … my wee Granny passed away last night. She had been quite ill for a while now – at least a year on and off. I was last in Glasgow in June 2008 for the Fort William World Cup. I drove up for the day and back again and the same the next day before racing get going proper to spend as much time as I could with my grandparents … but schedules don’t always cater for this kind of thing. So I took some photos as I saw my grandparents’ life.

My wee granny Jessie Millar at home in June 2008. She always hated me taking pictures of her without her ‘wallies’ in … false teeth for those not familiar with the Glaswegian vernacular.

My grandparents – Jessie & Jim Millar. They looked after me when I was in pre-primary in Glasgow and wouldn’t eat my rhubarb. They taught me the values of honesty and integrity and how you should live your life.

The city of Glasgow from my grandparents’ flat. I used to stare out this window for hours when I was a kid ..naming all the cars on the motorway. And whenever I have been back I always stand there for ages and soak it all in. Its like being a child again just looking out across the city to hills beyond. Its a view I will never forget.

My Grandad’s hat ready to ‘go the messages’. My Grandad is my hero – he was a fireman, an ambulance driver, a sailor and a loving husband to my Granny. He constantly teaches me about how to live my life – even now – in the best possible way – by example. And he taught me some cracking rhymes .. like El del dominel, Irky Pirky Toray rope, ann tan toesy joke .. or something like that.

Bye Granny. We will all miss you terribly. All our Love.

Sorry for the shameless Fast Show rip-off title. But I’ve been pretty busy. Since getting back from the World Cup Finals in Schladming last month I’ve managed to go on an awesome bike safari in Botswana with Cycle Mashatu – check out some pics here, shot the Cape Odyssey 5 day trail running race over 200kms of great Western Cape trails, and also shot the cover for the 2008 Mens Health Gear Guide.

The Mashatu trip was fantastic, riding your bike through a game reserve literally metres away from elephant, eland, kudu, giraffe etc. and then sleeping under the stars with lions and hyenas cavorting in the darkness! I’ve put some photos from the trip here.

The Cape Odyssey is another event run by the Cape Epic organisers and follows a similar idea to that already well-established format – multi-day, 2 person team, fully supported stage race across fantastic scenery. I’ve get the full gallery up on my main site soon – just need to wait for magazines and press runs to get it out. But here’s a couple i quite like

Groenlandberg Recession:

Above the clouds at the Berg River Dam:

Then the Mens Health shoot … that was a bit of an eye-opener. Being a bit of a loner when it comes to shooting – normally i spend all day in the forest or on a mountain shooting Mountain Bike World Cup events on my own – to have an art director, make up artist, designer, production assistant and model all on the shoot was interesting to say the least. Still it went well, and I managed to get my shots in … i think the issue is out in December.

Off to my home from home this week .. Pietermaritzburg. Yay.
